Napa Valley, CA – The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is pleased to introduce the new Spec E46 series. This class will host BMW 3-series platforms from 2001-2006 and cater to those who want close Spec racing utilizing a modern German platform. Designed to sit between the popular Spec E30 series and the highly developed cars of the German Touring Series, it will take advantage of the plentiful source of E46 street cars currently available in the $3k-$6k range.
With a minimum weight of just 2850lbs with driver and a spec ECU tune providing competitors with plenty of legal power, the cars will deliver exceptional performance on a reasonable budget. Focus will be on moderate chassis tunability using a spec MCS single adjustable shock allowing the opportunity to highlight driver ability while still providing for some adjustability to suit different driving styles. The series will also utilize the venerable Toyo Proxes RR tire providing fast and consistent laps times in a long lasting tire which will minimize operating costs.
The series will enjoy a condensed 2014 schedule with the first exhibition race taking place during the NASA Eastern States Championship event at Road Atlanta, Aug. 29-31. The two remaining races of the season will take place at the Virginia International Raceway before returning to the Road Atlanta facility for the final 2014 event. On the west coast, Spec E46 cars will compete at the NASA Western Championships and the 25 hours of Thunderhill. A complete schedule for 2015 will be released later this year.
The series will boast an impressive list of contingency sponsors allowing racers to subsidize their competition costs. Toyo will provide their lucrative contingency program for each event while Motion Control Suspension, Bimmerworld, Apex Wheels, and Ground Control will offer additional awards to series competitors. Complete information on all contingency programs will be posted as they become available.
